Special to Mesquite Today

Laura Hernandez (Moore) was born in Guadalajara Mexico. In the 50’s the Hernandez family moved to Chicago, Ill where Laura attended grade school. Then at the age of 16 the family moved to Moline, Ill where Laura graduated from Moline High. Laura then worked as a dental technician and attended Black Hawk College.

Laura then worked as an expeditor/production coordinator at International Harvester in East Moline where she met and later married Greg Moore. After working together for 30 years, both retired in 2004.

As a hobby Laura took to painting on artist mushrooms that Greg harvested from the woods in their backyard. Laura was successful in selling these in consignment shops. Prior to retirement Laura and Greg had stopped in Mesquite, NV on a road trip to Las Vegas. This stopped created a plan to eventually move to Mesquite. This happened in May of 2016.

After taking a long hiatus from painting and wanting to get back to the arts for years she discovered the Virgin Valley Artists’ Association (VVAA) and the adventure started for both Laura and Greg. Both now enjoy working together with pottery, painting and volunteering at the VVAA pottery studio and art gallery.
