The Mesquite Café Blues Band will be performing a free one-hour concert on Sunday, March 6, from 3p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clark County Library located at 160 W. 1st North St, Mesquite, NV 89027. Bring your own chair. There is plenty of space on the plaza.
Mesquite Cafe Blues Band was formed by Paul and Linda Villanueva.
Originally Paul was part of “Bottoms Up” band but he thought Mesquite would like something different so he got Linda on board and gave their buddy Wayne Andreola the blues as well.
Andreola plays Harmonica, Linda and Paul share vocals and Paul plays the guitar. The music they perform is original, written by Paul and Linda.
Paul and Linda’s goal is to make people feel happy, relaxed, and festive. We are performing artists, both in music and presentation. We are a “party blues band” when performing live. Yet, we also compose some deeper lyrics on our recorded material, which shows our versatility in this genre.
The concerts were the brainstorm of Norman Utley and Deborah Stephenson who are both members of Mesquite’s Rotary.
Rotarians are always looking to improve things in the community and the concerts were one way Utley and Stephenson knew would improve people’s spirits. Everybody loves some feel-good music.
They discussed a Rotary sponsorship with the Clark County Library and the concert series was a go.
It was reported that they had over 60 people show for the first and they have gained popularity since then.

“It was not intended to make a political statement; they simply want to see peoples’ smiles again.
The couple loves to eat at several of the local restaurants and they have favorite servers. One thing they always appreciated was being greeted with a smile. That greeting, usually unspoken, now has to come with the words, “Look, I’m smiling.” They said, because of the masks, you can’t see people’s smiles anymore and they miss it. Half a person’s expression is completely hidden which got them thinking about how young people are managing to fall in love in the days of COVID-19.” (Teri Nehrenz MCJ)
