LAS VEGAS/CARSON CITY, Nev. — Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead and Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert partnered to host a series of listening sessions with Nevada education stakeholders this week on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 23. Listening sessions were held in Las Vegas and Carson City and focused on meeting students’ safety, mental, and behavioral health needs.
“In my role as Lieutenant Governor, I will do what I have always done: build community, tackle big issues, and move solutions forward,” Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead said. “That’s why Superintendent Ebert and I felt it important to convene roundtables in both Southern and Northern Nevada, so that we can hear directly from a diverse array of stakeholders about what is needed in our schools as students return to the classroom. I sat it on these listening sessions not just as Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor, but as an educator and the mother of three daughters. I will never stop fighting for our students, because they are the future of our great state.”
“I am committed to listening and taking action to continue supporting the safety, mental, and social-emotional health of our students,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “It is critical to hear firsthand from the individuals who are directly experiencing our education system and have a meaningful understanding of how our students and educators are doing. Thank you to our community partners who continue to find ways to provide supports to our students, educators, and their families. It is a pleasure to have Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead collaborating closely with the Nevada Department of Education and together we will continue to invest our time and resources to move this work forward.”
