On Wednesday, May 4, Mesquite Days kicked off Family Fun Night at the Old Mill Ball Fields.

Family Fun Night is a years-long tradition and includes many events sponsored by local groups that offer a traditional and old fashioned community carnival event for everyone.

The fields were full of bounce houses, mechanical bulls, police training vehicles and the food trucks everyone loves, there was something for everyone, even an old fashioned tug o war game that involved some pretty muddy endings for the losers and a few muddy endings for the winners who just wanted to get wet and have some fun. There has always been someone disappointed to be the winner in this game and on some of the past hot spring nights. A group of winners who just want to have some water fun usually end up jumping into the pool-sized ditch the Mesquite Athletics and Leisures Services Department digs every year for the event.

Saturday is the big day for the events and begins as early as 7 a.m. when the Mayor will be serving up some old-fashioned pancakes until 8:30. After the breakfast they’ll be at the staging area for the Mesquite Days Parade, getting ready to travel down the boulevard and show their love for their current hometown.

Elspeth Kuta and volunteers give the community a quick lesson in making adobe bricks. This is also an event the Heritage Museum hosts each year in the museum yard.

One of the more popular events each year is the Mesquite Police Department’s training vehicles.
The Mechanical Bull is a challenging event for many. It’s harder than it looks.

Food Trucks, live music and great friends round out the Family Fun Night experience
