LAS VEGAS — Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead will teach a civics class to aspiring US citizens on Monday, Aug. 29 in Las Vegas in partnership with The Immigrant Home Foundation/Fundación Casa del Inmigrante (IHF).
Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead will be preparing students for their upcoming citizenship test. She is a former English and Spanish teacher, and prior to her retirement spent 25 years as an educator in the Clark County School District.
“I’m at home when I’m in a classroom, and I can’t wait to teach a group of students with a passion and drive to learn the tools they need to become citizens of our great country,” Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead said. “It should be a fun, informative evening.”
There will be opportunities for photos and b-roll, and there will be time for media availability after the event.

About Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead
Lisa Cano Burkhead is a first-generation Latina, the daughter of immigrant parents from South America who came to Las Vegas to find the American Dream. A lifelong educator, she spent 25 years working in Nevada public schools, first as a Spanish and English teacher and later as an administrator and principal.
As Lieutenant Governor, she is an advocate for the needs of public education and uses her position and platform to uplift the voices of students, educators and parents.
